Whispy falling hail stream clouds above a stumpy rainbow #cloudcollector

Photo054
THIS photo was taken yesterday from on top of the Mendip Hills in Somerset using a samsung 8 megapixel phone camera on zoom at high resolution. It shows what i think to be a stream of hail falling, being caught in the wind, so giving it a wavy whispy effect above a stumpy rainbow base which again i can only assume that i am viewing it side on to the arc..All these observations are my own thoughts on what i saw.I stopped the car to take the picture as it was so pleasing to the eye being a artist who works impresionist styles sometimes and that was the efffect i was seeeing when i took the photo, almost a impresionist style whispy clouds with the added bonus of a rainbow at the base. When i returned to my home about 3 miles up the road in priddy a severe hail storm blew over covering the farm almost instantly white.Such was the deluge.this has lead me to conclude that what i shot here was hail falling and swerving in the winds above the rainbow..I was glad it came out as i wanted too as it would have been quite hard to describe otherwise.

Stubby rainbow over Weston Super Mare pier #cloudcollector

Photo035_copy
THIS photo was taken of a very strange rainbow we noticed whilst walking .It gradually appeared from a very faint glow and grew to a wide stubby column which stayed around for a very long time indeed and never grew any bigger. There must be a logical explaination as to why.T he colours were very strong and clear. It appeared on a very changable day weather wise over the new pier at Weston Super Mare in Somerset.it was taken using a Samsung 8 MP phone camera .it was a lovely thing to see..i have never seen one ever befor then.it just seemed to dissappear into the low cloud directly above.
